Creating Access to Resources & Expanded Services (CARES)

The CARES (Creating Access to Resources & Expanded Services) Program, a collaboration between NEWAHEC, Milwaukee AHEC, and Ground Game Health, offers college students a unique community health field placement opportunity focused on addressing social determinants of health and barriers to healthcare access.

Participants in the CARES Program engage in virtual patient assessments to identify social determinants of health and other factors hindering patients from accessing necessary healthcare services. Students commit to a minimum of 40 hours, which includes completing virtual patient assessments.

Eligibility/Requirements

  • 40 hours

  • Completed virtual assessments

  • Thorough Eletronic Medical Record (EMR) patient documentation
