Community Health Internship Program (CHIP)

The Community Health Internship Program (CHIP), administered by Wisconsin AHEC (Area Health Education Centers), offers college students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the fields of community health, public health, and population health. Through CHIP, students can undertake an eight-week summer internship at various healthcare settings across Wisconsin, including local health departments, tribal health centers, community health centers, or community service organizations.

During the internship, students engage in meaningful work that directly contributes to improving community health outcomes. They may participate in a wide range of activities, including community outreach programs, health education initiatives, data collection and analysis, policy advocacy, and more. This hands-on experience allows students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings, gaining practical skills and insights into the complexities of public health practice.

Why Participate in the Community Health Internship Program (CHIP)

Through CHIP, students have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in the field, gaining mentorship, guidance, and networking opportunities. They also develop a deeper understanding of community health issues, social determinants of health, and the importance of addressing health disparities within diverse populations.

Students will serve as an internship for eight-weeks.
Service dates: June 2 – July 25, 2025.

Internship Position Types:

The program provides flexibility, allowing students to choose between full-time, three-quarter-time, part-time, or quarter-time positions based on their availability and academic commitments. This flexibility ensures that students can balance their internship experience with other obligations, such as coursework or extracurricular activities.

  • Full Time = 40 hours weekly = $4,800
  • Three Quarter time = 32 hours weekly = $3,600
  • Part Time = 22 hours weekly = $2,400
  • Quarter Time = 12 hours weekly = $1,200
