NEWAHEC is collaborating with the Manitowoc County Prevention Coalition and the Lakeshore Health Care Alliance to coordinate a short-term, summer volunteer opportunity program for students 15-18 years old located in Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties. This is a great opportunity for students to engage in projects that will help them gain new skills, develop good work habits, learn about various careers, and allow them to feel more connected to their community.
Students will be required to apply for a position, interview for available volunteer opportunities, attend an orientation, and complete a job skills training as part of the 12 week volunteer program. Students will then be placed at a community agency to complete their service work. They are required to complete at least 25 hours of volunteer service. This will also help students meet their required volunteer hours needed for graduation.
NEWAHEC has a strong partnership with high school counselors, due to our partnerships with schools to provide health care education and prevention efforts. We will work with the counselors at each high school to distribute the information for the program, and work with at least 30 non-profit organizations to provide volunteer opportunities for between 20 to 25 students.
